On our popular Art Basel Highlights Tour, we visit selected galleries at Art Basel and speak with gallery owners about the latest trends in the art market. With nearly 300 galleries from 35 countries, Art Basel is considered the most important art fair in the world. Founded in 1970 by Ernst Beyeler, Trudel Bruckner, and Balt Hilt, the fair has had editions in Miami Beach since 2002 and in Hong Kong since 2008. Those who exhibit here are among the most prestigious galleries, and the artists showcased are some of the most influential figures in contemporary art. This influence is often shaped by major biennials, such as the Venice Biennale, which is taking place this year, as well as other significant exhibitions.
Our tour begins with a brief visit to Art Unlimited, followed by an exploration of the Main Section, which features the world’s leading galleries. We also make stops at several outstanding program galleries on the first floor and conclude our tour at Statements, a section dedicated to young galleries presenting solo shows. Throughout the tour, we engage in personal discussions with gallery owners, asking them about their most sought-after pieces, the artists they are presenting in Basel, the reasons behind their selections, and how successful the fair has been for them.
