Villa Flora Winterthur | Marcel van Eeden

THE VILLA

Director – Artist Tour in a collector’s villa in Winterthur

We had just returned from a wonderful weekend at the Venice Biennale, filled with inspiring impressions—from the works of Pierre Huyghe and Jeffrey Gibson to the powerful video installation Repeat After Me, all rounded off by a stunning catamaran ride at sunset.

We were now delighted to look back on the first event of the new art season. Just two days after the opening of Marcel van Eeden’s solo exhibition at Villa Flora in Winterthur, we had the pleasure of a private tour led by artist and museum director Konrad Bitterli. The exhibition, titled The Villa, was the perfect occasion to explore both van Eeden’s work and the rich history of Villa Flora.

Konrad Bitterli shared with us the fascinating story of Hedy and Arthur Hahnloser, the visionary couple who founded this remarkable collection of modern art in the early 20th century. Their collection includes works by Van Gogh, Cézanne, and Félix Vallotton, a close friend of Hedy Hahnloser.

Villa Flora, which reopened this year after extensive renovations, transported us to another time and place. After the tour, we enjoyed a relaxed aperitif in the villa’s romantic garden—thankfully in beautiful weather.
